The St. Louis Rams had a steal with the Robert Griffin the third trade. Not only did they end up with the second pick this year, but they've already had multiple first and second rounders hit from that trade.
However, the St. Louis Rams are still in the hardest division in football but could catch up to the rest of their division with two first round picks including this one at pick two.
The St. Louis Rams are a talented young team but lost Sam Bradford to a torn ACL last season and still were very competitive despite this, at one point taking the Seattle Seahawks down to the final seconds of the game. However, they still have needs at wide receiver despite taking Tavon Austin at eight last year to trade up to get him.
Also, they have needs at safety, as well as cornerback after cutting bust free agent cornerback Cortland Finnegan. Oh yeah, and who could forget all those holes on the offensive line that has gotten quarterback Sam Bradford killed ever since entering the NFL which could be a huge reason why Bradford can't stay healthy. However, this pick comes down to what the Houston Texans do at number one so let's break down the options.
1. If the Houston Texans take a quarterback, which it's looking more and more like Blake Bortles is going to be the pick, they are most likely going to trade out of second overall to a team that wants defensive end Jadeveon Clowney. Jadeveon Clowney is arguably the best pass rusher to come out this decade and teams are dying to get him, including the Atlanta Falcons and the Dallas Cowboys among many others.
While the St. Louis Rams could stay at two and take Jadeveon Clowney for a best player overall selection to pair him up with Michael Brockers, Robert Quinn and Chris Long to have a hybrid set like the New York Giants did all those years, this is very unlikely as the team will probably want to have more picks to fill their team needs which will be smart.
2. There's the possible that the Houston Texans take Jadeveon Clowney or the St. Louis Rams want to stay put. In that scenario, it's too early to take a cornerback and safety, but even if it weren't they need to protect Sam Bradford if the Rams ever want to see his full potential so I believe that offensive tackle out of Auburn Greg Robinson will be the pick.
Greg Robinson is a freak of an athlete at 330 pounds, he ran a 4.8 40 time at the combine, one of the fastest this year and has one of the fastest get off of the snap and inital point of attack in the run game I've ever seen. Also, he has very quick feet in pass protection so the sky is the limit for Greg Robinson.
In my opinion, the pick will be Greg Robinson barring a trade regardless of Jadeveon Clowney being there or not and it would most certaintly be the smartest pick for the St. Louis Rams.
