Arizona Cardinals @ New England Patriots
In a, "what just happened?" fashion, the New England Patriots watched Stephen Gostkowski hook a game winning 42-yard field goal to the left as the Cardinals went on to upset the Patriots 20-18. Tom Brady was hurried more than he is comfortable with and the Patriots offense could not establish a rhythm.
The game also had fantasy relevance in many way. Aaron Hernandez went down with an ankle injury. Hernandez is expected to miss 4-6 weeks as it is not broken but severely sprained. Wes Welker once again came off the bench but led the Patriots in receiving yards with five receptions for 95 yards on 11 targets. Brandon Lloyd was the target leader (13) and receptions (8) as he finished the game with eight receptions for 60 yards. Lloyd and Brady tried to connect deep a couple more times but were unsuccessful again, but it is getting closer.
Rob Gronkowski had the lone receiving touchdown finishing the game with six receptions (9 targets) 75 yards and 1 touchdowns. Stevan Ridley carried the ball 18 times for 71 yards and added three receptions for 24 yards. The job is clearly Ridley's to lose but after today and last week he has a pretty good grip on it for now. Tom Brady surpassed the 300-yard mark but only threw for one touchdown, an interception and was sacked four times. Julian Edelman had five receptions for 50 yards on six targets.
The stats for the Arizona Cardinals are poor to say the least, which makes it even more of a shock that they were able to beat the Patriots.
Kevin Kolb was in Kevin Kolb form, terrible. Finishing the game 15 of 27 for 140 yards and one touchdown. A fantasy non-factor, I don't need to say more.
Beanie Wells finished the game with 44 yards on 14 rushes. Wells is still recovering from a couple injuries (ankle, groin) and will not get a larger workload until he is past them. Ryan Williams had 10 rushes for 13 yards and a nearly costly fumble late in the game setting up the Gostkowski miss.
Larry Fitzgerald had his worst game as a pro since his rookie season. He finished with one reception for 4 yards (5 targets) as the Patriots double and triple-teamed him all game. Early Doucet finished with three catches for 21 yards (4 targets). Andre Roberts had just one catch for two yards (1 target) and a touchdown.
Todd Heap led the Cardinals in receiving with five receptions (9 targets) for 62 yards.
