Week 10 Fantasy Football Preview: Chargers at Buccaneers
The San Diego Chargers are traveling east to meet the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Philip Rivers is coming off a game for the ages. Vincent Jackson will meet his old team for the first time.
And your fantasy team needs points and a win right now. Who do you play?
Last week against the Kansas City Chiefs, Rivers completed 18-of-20 passes. He also completed two touchdowns. But for the season Rivers has 12 touchdown passes with 10 interceptions. So will you see the good Rivers or the bad Rivers this Sunday?
The Buccaneers' defense ranks 32nd against the pass. The defense is the fifth worst against quarterbacks. The Buccaneers' defense has captured 13 interceptions. And interceptions are Rivers' Achilles heel.
Rivers is a high-risk, high-reward play. Typically Rivers plays well against the Buccaneers. High-risk and high-reward. Do you feel lucky?
In the past four games Freeman has 1,257 yards. During this span Freeman also has 11 touchdowns and one interception. Is there still a question?
You are playing him.
Mathews has one touchdown with 4.4 yards per carry average. And if you witnessed the Thursday night game you saw Mathews looking a little timid in his running.
The Buccaneers lead the NFL in run defense. They are only yielding 77.3 yards per game.
Maybe it is time to sit Mathews.
This is pure formality. Martin has rushed for 794 yards and seven touchdowns. He is averaging 5.2 yards per game.
Enough formality, PLAY HIM.
The good news is that Floyd is the leading receiver with 33 catches and 509 yards. Last game against the Kansas City Chiefs he caught two touchdown passes.
Now for the even better news, the Buccaneers' have the third worst defense against wide receivers.
You are playing Floyd.
Vincent Jackson and Mike Williams
Again this is just another formality.
Jackson will be playing against his old team. He is averaging 22.9 yards per catch. He has six touchdowns for the season.
Williams is averaging 17.4 yards per catch. He has five touchdowns for the season.
On any given Sunday it can be either Williams or Jackson who are the recipients of Freeman's touchdown tosses.
Play them both.
Gates is having a mediocre year. By fantasy standards it could be even called a bad year. He only has 281 yards and three touchdowns. Last week against the Chiefs he had 43 yards. He also had one touchdown. For a tight end that is not a bad day. And Gates is Rivers' security blanket.
The Buccaneers' defense is 20th against tight ends.
Maybe I am a romantic but I can't seem to quit Gates.
This game has all the makings of an old fashion shoot out. That could many fantasy gold.
