Top Five Teams that Alex Smith Could Play for Next Year
Last year was an impressive turn-around for Alex Smith. He was once looked at as a first round bust that no matter who the coach was, he was doomed to lead the 49er's to failure. Enter Jim Harbaugh, under his tutelage, Smith led the 49er's to a NFC West title, and one game away from a Super Bowl.
However, due to Smith's injury, back-up rookie Colin Kaepernick has gotten the start the last two games, and has proven he is a dynamic quarterback that gives the 49er's the ability to open their playbook. Kaepernick is 2-0 and has shown he has plenty of velocity and accuracy on his throws as well as, the ability to use his legs to to make plays. Making him a much more dynamic quarterback than Smith.
Smith, (and this is not a knock) is considered a safe passer. He doesn't try to force throws or take chances down-field unless there's a sure thing. He is a nice quarterback to have granted he has an amazing offensive line (like the 49ers) and a complimentary running game. He has shown he can keep teams in games and be a leader and winner.
Before his injury, Smith was fifth in the NFL with a quarterback rating of 104.1 while tossing 13 touchdowns and only five interceptions, while completing an incredible 70 percent of his passes.
With Kaepernick's emergence, it's assumed that Smith will be looking for employment elsewhere.
Here ar the five teams that could use Smith's services.

Actually, as unrealistic as it may be, it
d be a smart change of pace. A new coach might lobby for Smith seeing as how his ball protection skills have become top notch. A coach could see it as a change of pace from Vick throwing INTs and fumbling constantly, and use Smith as a game manager and let LeSean McCoy and Bryce Brown carry the game.
True, but the city of Philadelphia would hang whatever coach brings in Smith. Won't happen. Thankfully haha
They both would make sense. I would honestly like to see him get traded to Arizona, but inner-division trades rarely happen.
Not saying he is awesome, but due to the turn-around and his recent decent play, it makes him an attractive commodity. I think coaches and GM's have the "what have you done for me lately" mentality, and Smith would fit that. He will need a defense, running game, and good OL to carry him, I for sure agree with that.
Another good fit would be the Cowboys...
I thought about that, but I heard they are going to offer Romo an extension. Which is totally insane!
Also not a bad option. I really should have made it clear if he gets dealt out of SF. Your right, inner-division trade dealings rarely happen, but if it did he would be a better option than what they have. Problem AZ would have to address though is the offensive line so Smith doesn't get killed.
As a Life long niner fan, we've seen it all but there no excuse for Smith's BUST performance. To use the coaching staff as a crutch for the way he played is absurd! Thumbs up for the turn around, but HE WAS NEVER A REAL PLAY MAKER IN THE NFL. His check down is always his way of bailing out of making a play. 1 season doesnt make him a great quarterback. Jags and chiefs are the only realistic choices. Giving they even want his a$$
Well, I can't really disagree with your view. Maybe I'm just making excuses for Smith because I hate to see a guy lose his job due to an injury and because I'm letting the fact that he's a nice (and loyal) guy cloud my view. He'll do ok with money somewhere (he has good stats on paper)so I shouldn't feel soprry for him, I guess. Not sure Harbaugh has handled thuis well, however
Not disagreeing with the idea that Smith is only mediocre to above average. However, with the turnaround last year and the start he was off to, I don't see him wanting to sit on the bench. I feel he's going to get dealt, particularly because SF tried to get P. Manning, and with Kaepernick seemingly decent (in a short span of time at least), I think he gets dealt. I think if the Jags can improve the OL and resign Jones-Drew, it's not a bad place to go and kill the rest of his career.
know what can really know what's going on in that locker room. Maybe it's an extra week's rest, maybe they want to see what this rookie has. Either way everyone knows he's not better than Smith. Let's see how this thing plays out. I doubt the kick Smith out the door.
Thank you very much, appreciated.
