In the category of “Crazy is as crazy does,” Tim Tebow fans may have finally left me speechless.
Believe me, it is hard to do. Ask my mother.
According to the Huffington Post, a petition was started by Tebow fans to have the White House, most notably President Barack Obama, force Jaguars’ team owner Shad Khan to sign Tebow and make him the starter for Jacksonville.
Excuse me while I throw up in my mouth.
Regardless of him being a hometown hero here in Jacksonville, a good citizen, a marketing tool and someone who can fill seats, he probably cannot throw his team to wins anymore so than those in the roster. And when it comes right now to it, the NFL is really about winning. Tebow does not represent the best opportunity for that to happen here in Jacksonville.
The current status of the quarterback situation is not solid, with both Blaine Gabbert and Chad Henne mediocre at best, but does Tebow give the Jaguars the best chance to win? I think not.
The Petition, which since has been taken of the White House website it clearly states,
“Jacksonville Jaguars fans want the team to sign recently released QB Tim Tebow. However, rookie general manager for the Jacksonville Jaguars David Caldwell is blocking this from happening. If the Jaguars sign & START Tebow, home games will be sold out, sales will spike, the team will win and the fans will be happy.Mr. Caldwell is ignoring lots of facts about the misunderstood Tim Tebow while in Denver: Passer rating of 125.6 is highest ever in Broncos postseason history. Most yards per completion (31.6) in NFL playoff history.100.5 QB rating is best ever for a Broncos QB in his first start.Third most passing yards in a game by a Bronco rookie QB. (308, in his 2nd start), First 15+ point comeback in the final 3 minutes of an NFL game since the merger,7 game winning drives in just 16 games!
I admire the passion and the respect. I admire a love for the player who is pure as the driven snow. But the NFL is about players who can play. Should Tebow try another position, like fullback or even tight end, this works. Tebow has stated he only wants to play quarterback, so he shot himself in the foot.
This petition is ineffective. This idea is crazy. And for Tebow, all it does is call into question his ability as a quarterback. It truly is a no-win situation for everyone involved.
