The San Diego Chargers snuck into the 2013 playoffs with a 9-7 record. The Chargers defeated the Cincinnati Bengals to advance to the divisional round against the Denver Broncos where they lost. Now the Chargers are going to try and make a bigger push into the playoffs and dethrone the reigning AFC Champions and division rivals Denver Broncos. But first three bold predictions.
Show Richard Marshall the door
Nine year veteran Cornerback Richard Marshall only started 6 games for the Chargers in 2013 where he managed to rack up 71 tackles 6 defended passes and 1 fumble recovery. In June the Chargers signed former Kansas City Chief Pro-Bowl Corner Brandon Flowers possibly to show Richard Marshall the door.
Donald Brown becomes the feature back
Ryan Matthews is entering his contract year with the Chargers and there is no clear picture as to whether or not they will resign him. The Chargers signed Donald Brown to a 3 year contract back in March. Brown the former Indianapolis Colt will compete with Danny Woodhead and Ryan Matthews for field time and Brown very well could become the #1 Back.
Eddie Royal gets bumped
Seven year Special Team specialist Eddie Royal has jets, there is no question about it, but what does come into queston is his ability to hold on to the ball. Royal has a nasty problem of putting the ball on the ground especially in big game situations. The Chargers brought in Brelan Chancellor a rookie from North Texas to contend for Royal's roster spot. Chancellor was a Special Teams star while at North Texas.
