Safety Dashon Goldson is looking for a contract in the range of what San Diego safety Eric Weddle signed in 2011 ($40 million over five years, with a $19-million signing bonus, according to Clifton Brown of the Sporting News).
David Fucillo of NinersNation.com said, “If he wants that kind of money, I think he walks.”
Dalanie Walker has been a versatile tight end that has helped the 49ers rank third in Cold Hard Football Facts' stats of rushing yards per attempt in the NFL at 5.07, eighth in real passing yards per attempt at 6.91, and fourth in offensive passer rating at 101.19.
Talks with Walker and the 49ers have been non-existent, and they have not placed the franchise tag on him, which leads Fucillo to believe that they are going to let Walker test the free agent waters.
“It is possible that once again the 49ers will let a free agent check the market, and realize they might not be as highly valued outside of San Francisco as they thought.”
Green Bay, Baltimore and Philadelphia have shown interest in Ricky Jean-Francois, but talks have not gotten to the contract level according to Fucillo. Seattle NT Alan Branch is on the 49ers’ free agent radar, but they expect him to resign with the Seahawks according to NinersNation.com.
ESPN's Adam Schefter tweeted Cullen jenkins, released by Eagles last week, set to visit San Francisco this week.
The San Francisco 49ers made it to the NFC Championship Game and made it to the Super Bowl in the first two years of the Jim Harbaugh regime; and they are looking to take the next step in year three—win the Super Bowl.
However, history is not on their side. The last franchise to go on to win the Super Bowl after losing in it the previous year was the 1972 Miami Dolphins—Mercury Morris reminds of that team every year when the last undefeated team of the season loses.
In fact, five of the last six NFC teams that lost the Super Bowl did not make the playoffs the next season—the 2008 Arizona Cardinals being the exception.
These are the five questions the 49ers must answer correctly this off-season in order to buck this trend. If they indeed answer these questions, they could be the first Super Bowl loser to go on and win the Super Bowl the next season since the 1972 Dolphins.
