In this edition of “Football Nation Today,” Alex talks about some of the hot topics around the NFL over the past couple of weeks.

1st Down: Alex speaks with Thom Cunningham, a contributor to Football Nation.  Alex and Thom discuss Steelers safety Ryan Clark’s comments about Tom Brady and the Patriots losing their mystique, and if there is a formula to beating the Patriots.

Alex asks Thom about his recent quarterback rankings column, and why he ranks Tony Romo in the top 10.  Alex and Thom also debate about the definition of an elite quarterback, and the direction of the quarterback position as a whole.

2nd Down: John McCain introduced a bill in the senate last week that could potentially put an end to television blackouts.  Alex says this is a bill NFL fans everywhere should be hoping passes, as the NFL blackout rules are beyond antiquated.  In today’s era of media, why not try to make your product as accessible as possible?

3rd Down: In the “Big Up or Slow Down” segment, Alex debates whether the Bills are heading in the right direction, if it’s too early for the Jaguars to give up on Justin Blackmon and if we can gage anything worthwhile from NFL mini-camps.

4th Down: In the “Reimer Rant,” Alex rails against ESPN columnist Rick Reilly, who wrote maybe the most uninsightful, uninteresting piece about the Jets QB situation this week.  And with all that’s out there about the Jets, that’s saying something.
