Baltimore Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta left Saturday's practice session on a cart, and was later diagnosed with a dislocated and fractured hip, per team sources.
Pitta was stricken when he was trying to make an acrobatic catch in the back of the endzone. He was taken to a local hospital via ambulance, where he reportedly underwent surgery.
The club has not officially ruled Pitta out for the 2013 season, but sources say the team is not optimistic that he will be on the playing field anytime soon.
Pitta signed a second-round tender back in May worth $2.023 million. The Brigham Young product had one of his best seasons last year, hauling in career-highs with 61 catches for 669 yards and seven touchdowns for the Super Bowl champs.
