Pittsburgh Steelers at Green Bay Packers: Three Bold Predictions
Football in December is the real Christmas gift this year. With seven of the eight division titles still up for grabs, the AFC South being the only sure thing with the Indianapolis Colts being four games clear of the Tennessee Titans with only two games remaining.
So to this week's game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Green Bay Packers.
The Steelers need a small miracle to sneak into the playoffs while the Packers are still in contention for the NFC North title at 7-6-1, behind the Chicago Bears at 8-6. And who do the Packers play in the final game of the season? Correct! The Chicago Bears.
This is why we love football. For now though lets enjoy some bold predictions for the Steelers at the Packers.
No. 1: Eddie Lacy and Le'Veon Bell will combine for over 400 total yards.
Both rookies have been very impressive this year. Lacy has already recorded over 1,000 rushing yards and leads the league in yards after contact, proving what a monster he really is and what made him a force at Alabama.
Bell has transformed the Steelers' poor run game with his versatility, he may only have 646 rushing yards but he has 388 receiving yards. Backing up Mike Tomlin's recent comments that picking Bell over Lacy in the draft was an "easy decision for me" Tomlin recognized that Lacy was a quality back but he wanted the versatility of Bell in the Steelers' backfield.
No. 2: Both Ben Roethlisberger and Matt Flynn will throw for over 300 yards.
I'm not expecting much in the form of defense in this game if you didn't notice. This prediction obviously will hinge on whether Aaron Rodgers is back for the Packers, he intends to practice today (Wednesday) but whether he'll suit up against the Steelers is another question. But regardless I think the Packers' receivers will be too much for the Steelers' secondary to handle. While the Packers' defense has been shakey all season to say the least.
No. 3: The Packers will blow a 20-point lead.
The football gods will hand out some karma on the Packers after they came back from 23 points down to beat the Dallas Cowboys last week in a Tony Romo meltdown. Matt Flynn isn't the greatest ever, so he will get off to a hot start against the Steelers but will start getting careless and the turnovers will come flying, literally, three interceptions in the second half is my call.
My prediction for the final score: 37-34 to the Steelers. Game of the year if all my predictions come true.
