Nick Saban's Pupils
While coaching under Bill Belichick on the Cleveland Browns' staff, Nick Saban was a student under a great coach himself.
Mark Dantonio learned a great deal about coaching defense from Saban. Dantonio's Michigan State Spartans are ranked 3rd in the nation in points given up. The Spartans are 8-1 in 2013, and they've had two 11 win seasons in the past three years. Dantonio coached defensive backs under Saban at Michigan State.
Jimbo Fisher was Saban's offensive coordinator while leading the LSU Tigers to a national title in 2003, Fisher brought back that old electricity to the Florida State Seminoles. The Noles are ranked #3 in the nation and have a shot at the title in 2013.
New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels was a coach under Saban at Michigan State; McDaniels has done more with less talent as a Patriot coordinator.
The biggest sucess story under Saban was his ex-assistant, Dean Pees, defensive coordinator for last years' Baltimore Ravens' Super Bowl Championship team.
Derrick Dooley and Will Muschamp both are failures as head coaches and both coached under Saban.
Dooley was fired as the Tennessee Volunteers for losing records, lack of leadership, and poor decisions.
Will Muschamp has done a poor job as head coach of the Florida Gators, not to mention he's lost to the Georgia Bulldogs in all three seasons.
*No prior assistant coach under Saban has made a title game in college football.
The Bears' Staff
The following list of coaches reveal what Paul "Bear" Bryant did for the game of football and shows the seperation between him and Saban.
Howard Schnellenberger coach under Bryant, then later built a dynasty in Miami, Florida. His Hurricanes won a title in 1983 and was the beginning of something special.
Gene Stallings coach under Bryant and won a title of his own in 1992 as head coach of Alabama. Stallings 1992 was the greatest college defense of all time.
Going back to 1958, ex assistant to coach Bryant, Paul Dietzel lead the LSU Tigers to a national championship.
Other coaches under "The Bear" were Jackie Sherill who held an 153-62 record with a Sugar Bowl win over Georgia. Pat Dye with three SEC Coach of The Year awards and four SEC titles as the Auburn Tigers' coach, and David Cutcliff who turned a Duke Blue Devil program around. Cutcliff has molded QBs such as Eli Manning and Peyton Manning.
Here are others who later coached under Bryants' assistants, and the coaching tree continues...
Bill Belichick, Les Miles, Norv Turner, Jimmy Johnson, Kevin Sumlin, Mack Brown, Bill Parcells, Joe Gibbs, Bobby Bowden, Phillip Fulmer, Pete Carroll, Lou Holtz, Monte Kiffin, Mike Shanahan, Charlie Strong, Barry Alvarez, Urban Meyer, Frank Beamer, and Dabo Swinney.
*Through the Paul "Bear" Bryant coaching tree, 18 college national titles and 12 NFL Super Bowls were won.
Long story short, The Bear beats Baby Saban. Please note: Do not share this information with any Alabama fan. The last thing we need are those loud-mouth, cry babys, protesting and poisoing another innocent tree!
