The playoffs are now in full flight, as we have past the divisional round in the 2011-2012 NFL season. Through all of madness, I am here to preview an article that is on its way following the super bowl.

Last offseason players of the NFL voted on who they thought were the top 100 players of 2011. The list contained a few, maybe even a lot of questionable decisions as the list was aired on NFL network in a countdown each week.

This year you can see the list early at Football Nation as contributor Cooper Allen goes through who he believes are the top 100 players of 2012.

The list will start from 100 and countdown by 20, with players 100-81 debuting on Sunday, February 12th; just one week following the super bowl. The players that rank between 80 and 61 can be seen the following Thursday, which is February the 16th.

This pattern will be used for the next 60 players with numbers 60-41 published on Sunday, February 19th. Players 40-21 the following Thursday, February 23rd and the finale on Sunday, February 26th where you will be able to see who the top 20 players of 2012 are.

Now, I’m not much of a rules guy, but here are the modifications...

Players like Donovan McNabb and Terrell Owens may have had good years in the past, but you will not see these types of players on the list.

Kickers and punters and strictly special team’s players all play roles in their team’s success or failure, however players at these positions have been left off the list.

Peyton Manning, Andre Johnson, Jamaal Charles, Eric Berry and Darren McFadden were all on the list in 2011, but suffered injuries throughout 2012 that limited their playing time. Players who have been bitten by the injury bug this year will not be on the list.

Hopefully you’re as excited to read the list as I am to write it. I look forward to hearing all of your input and how our opinions may or may not differ. Thanks for reading, see you all after the super bowl!
