New England Patriots: 5 Biggest Needs of 2013 Offseason

February 6th, 2005... 2013 will be the eighth season that the Patriots will suit up since last bringing the Lombardi trophy to Foxboro Massachusetts. Even after stocking up for the 2007 season, the team could not get it done, losing a dumbfounding contest to the Giants in the waning moments of a disappointing Super Bowl.

Matching the talent of that 2007 season seems almost impossible; Belichick had amassed a plethora of talent to complement Tom Brady in Randy Moss, Wes Welker, Donte Stallworth, Ben Watson, Mike Vrabel, Tedi Bruschi, Richard Seymour, Rodney Harrison, Asante Samuel, Vince Wilfork, Adalius Thomas, Junior Seau... wow!

That kind of talent rarely assembles on one field at any given time, even on BOTH teams. The current squad of Patriots has a number of holes on both sides of the ball.

So these are the problem areas the Patriots need to address to not only get back to the Super Bowl, but to make sure that they secure that trophy one more time.

With the 49ers not franchising Dashon Goldson, he would make a good fit in NE to fill the role of that hard-hitting safety. He would have to bring down his asking price though.
I personally would like to see Ed Reed in Pats blue and silver, even if he does only have a few years left. It only takes one year to win a Super Bowl and he would be a tremendous presence on that defense.
They could also use an edge-rusher to apply more pressure on opposing QBs.
Good article and I agree just sign Welker already.

Unfortunately, it would have to be Talib or Godson, and at least Talib is familiar with the system. I think his attitude is not the issue most people think it is.
