TimmonsThe Pittsburgh Steelers and Kansas City Chiefs slugged and sloshed their way through the rain and slick conditions Monday night in Pittsburgh at Heinz Field, battling the elements and each other.

The Steelers were just a little better, overcoming an injury to quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and sloppy play to escape with a 16-13 overtime win over the Chiefs.

The Hero of the Game is awarded to Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Lawrence Timmons for picking off Kansas City quarterback Matt Cassel in overtime at the KC 28 yard line that set up the game-winning field goal.

On a night when the Pittsburgh offense was out of sync, especially after Big Ben went down with an injury, and the Steelers struggling to eek out a win to keep pace in the AFC North, Timmons' interception was the play of the game.

A loss to the Chiefs would have been demoralizing, and Lawrence Timmons made the key play at the right time to propel the Steelers into a big showdown next week with their rivals, the Baltimore Ravens.

Timmons also had seven tackles, including four solo tackles in route to a solid game at linebacker. The Steelers needed a big play by someone to get them through this game without a loss. Lawrence Timmons stepped up, made a play, and for that gets the game ball.

The Zero of the Game is awarded to Kansas City quarterback Matt Cassel. While not an overly bad game by Cassel, his errant throw in overtime was an absolute heart breaker that really ended the Chiefs hopes of an upset on Monday night.

For the game Cassel completed 11/26 passes for 154 yards, was sacked twice; and also had two interceptions. More glaring was the fact that Cassel had a miserable night on third down passing. For the game he was 0-8 on third down, and was also sacked once.

Entering the game Cassel had been solid on third down completion percentage, to the tune of a clip of 68.8 percent which was an NFL high.

At crucial times of the game, quarterbacks are measured on the plays they make, or don't make. And they are measured on throws they make, or don't make. It's a win or go home league, where results mean everything, and overtime interceptions on the road can't happen.
