Earlier this week GM David Caldwell received a phone call from the Baltimore Ravens GM, Ozzie Newsome. Newsome reached out to Caldwell in hopes of acquiring Jaguars left tackle Eugene Monroe and wanted to work out a deal. Prior to the phone call, Caldwell had no intention of dealing with the left tackle who was in the last year of his contract until the end of the season.
Nonetheless, the two sides hammered out a deal that sent Monroe to Baltimore, and Baltimore's 4th and 5th round draft picks in the upcoming draft to Jacksonville, a team that in dire need of draft picks to help revamp a talentless roster this offseason. That trade speculated that Caldwell was in the works of trading other players in the last year of their contract like Maurice Jones-Drew, in an effort to stockpile draft picks, something Caldwell re-assured everyone wasn't the case.
Fast forward to the first quarter of today's game: Jones-Drew takes the ball on a handoff and runs behind his blocker, Joeckel. The whistle blows signaling the play is dead, everybody gets up...except for Joeckel.
Within seconds, the coaches and training staff are at Joeckel's side and immediately signal for the medics to bring the golf cart and take Joeckel to the locker room. Shortly before halftime, Jaguars senior writer John Oehser tweeted that Joeckel was being lookd at for a right ankle injury and was being x-rayed:
Luke Joeckel (right ankle) doubtful to return. Going to get X-Rayed.
Minutes before the end of the first quarter, Oehser tweeted that Joeckel would not be returning to the game:
Joeckel officially will not return
After the game was over, Oehser tweeted the worst of it, Joeckel was done for the season with a high ankle fracture:
Luke Joeckel has a high ankle fracture and is done for season.
Cameron Bradfield stepped in at LT in place of Joeckel which sent Austin Pasztor to RT. For those of you wondering, yes, this is all that's left at the tackle position on our roster and yes, these are now our starters at tackle. Oh how nice it would be to have Eugene Monroe back.
