Darell Hazell is looking to change the culture and turn the program back around and this is a step in the right direction, but there is still a lot of work to be done.  The Boilers got their first win of the season on saturday against a lesser opponent who was playing without their best player.   They started off good with a reverse play on the opening kickoff for a touchdown.  With a touchdown on the first play of the game you would think it would be a long day for Indiana State, but they played the Boilers tough.

Purdue didn't get much going on offensive in the first half with just a field goal to go with that first touchdown.  They struggled against the Indiana State defense by getting stopped going for it on 4th down in their our territory and were also stopped at the goal line a couple times.  Purdue should have been dominating the line of scrimmage against this team and looked inconsistant at times.  They were still showing some of the same mistakes with penalties and also had a botched snap near the red zone.

The Purdue defense had an OK game and didn't give up a touchdown until late in the 3rd quarter.  They were decent up front and Indiana State didn't really make a bunch of big plays against them.  Indiana State finally got things going with another touchdown drive in the 4th.  They were down 14 to 20 in the 4th and had a couple chances to win but came up short.  They drove down to the 37 yard line but had a couple penalties and had to punt.  Their punter made a nice punt that pinned Purdue down to the 2 yard line.  Purdue got a first down but then gave up the ball after three straight runs.  Indiana State had one more shot with less than a minute and no timeouts, but came up short again.  Purdue's defense held on in the end and got a interception from thier senoir cornerback Ricardo Allen to win the game.

Purdue was not very impressive and have a long way to go, but showed some positive things.  Maybe this would be a loss on last years team.  I don't think they are going to a bowl game this year, but as long as they show progress this year and improve they can start off stronger next season.  At some point later this season they might get one of their talented freshmen quarterbacks some work.  They have a couple freshmen contributing right away with BJ Knauf and Dalyn Dawkins making some plays on offense so the future is bright.  Its a work in progress, but Hazel has them on the right path.
