With quarterback Michael Vick missing the last three games with a concussion; Nick Foles is the new official starter for the Eagles. Foles replaced Vick late in the first half of the Eagles 38-23 week 10 loss to the Cowboys.
The Eagles are 3-9 and on an 8 game losing streak. With playoff hopes gone there is no reason for the Eagles to risk an injury to Vick if they want to try and trade him after the season. This is also a good time to see if Foles has a future as the starting play caller past this season.
Through nine games this season Michael Vick struggled in many of those games managing to have as many turnovers as he did touchdowns. Vick was having his best game of the season going 6-9 for 70 yards and a touchdown with a quarterback rating of 127.1 before leaving the game after multiple hits from the Cowboys defenders.
On the season, Vick was 185-316 for 2165 yards and 11 touchdowns. He was not much of a factor on the ground this season only running for 307 yards on 57 carries and a touchdown. At times Vick was more of a liability when he had the ball turning it over 12 times; 9 interceptions and 3 lost fumbles. I say lost fumbles due to the fact he actually put the ball on the ground 6 times. With the the successful play of Foles; I look for the Eagles to try and trade Vick after the season if they don't cut him.
Going in and starting for Vick has been no easy task for Foles. Although he is playing consistent considering the situation with injuries and the future of head coach Andy Reid in the air; Foles is now 0-3 as a starter. Foles really struggled in his first 2 starts; losing to the Panthers 22-30 and to the Redskins 31-6 where he was 21-46 passing. In the latest Eagles loss against the Cowboys; Foles played and manage his best game of the year completing 22 of his 34 passes for 251 yards and a touchdown. He also managed to hold on to the ball better not committing any turnovers after he had six in his previous two and a half games
Playing quarterback in Philadelphia has been tough on players in years past. Nick Foles will become the latest player to experience the harsh environment that comes with running the Eagles offense. Foles is the third quarterback since Donovan McNabb left to be named starter. Kevin Kolb started the carousel when McNabb was traded to the Washington Redskins in 2010. Kolb did not spend much time as the starter in 2010 with Michael Vick stepping in after the first 4 games. The 2010 season was promising for the Eagles after Vick took over only to have a huge let down in 2011. Now at 3-9 in 2012 It's Foles job unless he gets injurerd. The Eagles have another tough game coming up against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and could play playoff spoiler with a good game from Foles.
