There are a handful of football players who have a long and prosperous career in the NFL, much like Brett Favre or Randy Moss. Sometimes these careers can span more than a decade and include several teams in that time span.
For others, their careers never really get off the ground, and while they may taste a brief glimpse of stardom, do not live up to the expectations of their talent. Still others tank before they have even played a full season, failing to live up to the hype that may have seen them drafted in the first round, like a Ryan Leaf.
And a few of these will hang around far longer than they should, teasing unsuspecting coaches with a hint of the promise they once held. I think of JaMarcus Russell as a perfect example.
