Fantasy Football Week 12 Preview: Redskins at Cowboys
Washington: The Redskins come off an absolute thrashing of the dead-in-the-water Eagles in Week 11, as Robert Griffin III finally had a huge passing effort, throwing for four TD passes.
Now the Redskins go on the road for a Thanksgiving day matchup with division rival Dallas, which will likely prove to be the most entertaining of the three Thanksgiving games this year.
RGIII hit on multiple TDs for the first time in a month, and will likely repeat against the Cowboys this week, even though the Cowboys have a higher ranked pass defense than the Eagles did (6th vs. pass for Cowboys, 13th for Eagles).
The Cowboys are well-versed in facing running quarterbacks, as they do have to defend against Michael Vick twice a year. However, RGIII is a different animal altogether, and his speed and versatility will trump anything the Cowboys throw against him.
The running game has stalled out in recent weeks, as Alfred Morris just had his third game in a row with 76 yards or less rushing. It’s not likely he’ll get much better than that against a stout Cowboys defense that ranks 13th in the category. Morris should get around 70-80 total yards, and might be able to sneak in a score, if RGIII doesn’t pilfer it for himself.
Good Start: QB Robert Griffin III
Middle of the Road: RB Alfred Morris, WR Santana Moss, TE Logan Paulsen
Bad Start: WR Pierre Garcon, WR Leonard Hankerson
Cowboys: It really does say something about the state of your team when you barely squeeze out a win against a terrible Browns team, at home no less. Be that as it may, after 11 weeks of the regular season the Cowboys stand only a game out of first place in the NFC East, and are in prime position to try to steal it away from the Giants.
The key to that of course is the play of Tony Romo, who has been pretty good as of late. Romo has either multiple touchdowns or over 300 yards passing in each of the last four games, and will look to build on that against the Redskins, who sport one of the worst pass defenses in the league.
With Romo being able to air it out effectively, look for the maturation of Dez Bryant to continue here, as he should roll up his 3rd good fantasy game in the last four tries.
Miles Austin has been a mild disappointment this year, but against the Redskins he should at least put up a semi-useful stat line. Same goes for Jason Witten, as he’s been fairly quiet recently but will likely get a chance to pick it back up this week.
Of course, the one part of the Cowboys that isn’t working so well is the running game. DeMarco Murray missed yet another game, and looks likely to miss this one as well. That means we get one more week of Felix Jones toting the mail, where he’s looked less than stellar.
Still, he’s a starting RB and is facing a bad defense, so you almost have to fit him in at least as a flex if you have him.
Good Start: QB Tony Romo, WR Dez Bryant, TE Jason Witten
Middle of the Road: RB Felix Jones, WR Miles Austin
Bad Start: RB Lance Dunbar, WR Dwayne Harris
