Quarterbacks

  • Blaine Gabbert, QB, JAC
    • Injury: Cut (throwing hand)
    • Status: Doubtful
    • Depth Chart: Starter
    • Back-up: Chad Henne
    • News: He threw some at practice on Wednesday, but required less of a workload on Thursday, the Florida Times-Union's Ryan O'Halloran reports.
    • Fantasy ramification: The decreased work on Thursday is a concerning sign that Gabbert had a setback, and is not on schedule to return to play this week. It appears Chad Henne will get the start again for the struggling Jaguars. Expect Gabbert to be back in 1-2 weeks.
  • Tony Romo, QB, DAL
    • Injury: Ribs
    • Status: Probable
    • Depth Chart: Starter
    • Back-up: Kyle Orton
    • News: He was a full participant in Thursday's practice, NFL.com reports.
    • Fantasy ramification: Romo appears to be playing in week three. He is still a top-10 QB in Week 3 against St Louis.
  • Ryan Tannehill, QB, MIA
    • Injury: Right Shoulder
    • Status: Questionable
    • Depth Chart: Starter
    • Back-up: Matt Moore
    • News: He continues to nurse a sore right shoulder, the Associated Press reports.
    • Fantasy ramification: It appears Tannenhill is still 50/50 for Sunday’s game against Atlanta. This is the later game on Sunday, so if he is declared to be out right before game time, his owners will need to have a back-up in the Sunday or Monday night games. It’s also advisable for Mike Wallace and Brian Hartline owners find better alternatives.
  • Brandon Weeden, QB, CLE
    • Injury: Sprained thumb on his right hand (throwing hand)
    • Status: Out
    • Depth Chart: Starter
    • Back-up: Brian Hoyer
    • News: Weeden left game in the fourth quarter after hitting his thumb on another player’s helmet. Weeden reported the X-rays were negative. His sprained right thumb will not need surgery, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
    • Fantasy ramification:  He will be out for Sunday’s game, and Brian Hoyer will be the starter. It is advisable to not play any of the Cleveland offensive players with the exception of Jordan Cameron. Often Overwhelmed quarterbacks throw to the tight ends often as a dump-off.

Running Backs

  • Le'Veon Bell, RB, PIT
    • Injury: Foot sprain
    • Status: Questionable
    • Depth Chart: Starter
    • Back-up:  Isaac Redman, Jonathan Dwyer, and Felix Jones
    • News: He was able to get some carries in during a padded scrimmage Thursday, James C. Wexell of the Uniontown Herald-Standard reports.
    • Fantasy ramification: He is still a long shot to play on Sunday night. Felix Jones is expected to start on Sunday.

  • Giovani Bernard, RB, CIN
    • Injury: Hamstring
    • Status: Questionable
    • Depth Chart: 2nd string
    • Back-up: Cedric Peerman
    • News:  He was limited in practice Thursday, ESPN.com reports.
    • Fantasy Ramification: Bernard is one of the most dynamic players on the Bengals offense. It looks like that is a good chance he can play in Week 3. He is a flex player this week due to the viability of injured hamstrings. He could exacerbate his symptoms easily during the game. He is a high risk/high reward player this week.

  • Brandon Bolden, RB, NE
    • Injury: Knee
    • Status: Questionable
    • Depth Chart: 3rd string
    • Back-up: Leon Washington
    • News: He was limited at practice Wednesday, the Patriots' official site reports.
    • Fantasy Ramification: The most noteworthy aspect of Bolden’s injury pertains to Stevan Ridley. Now that Vereen is out, and Ridley and LeGarrette Blount are the only healthy RBs, the uncertainty of the New England backfield is starting to clear up. Ridley is a must start in all formats.
  • Reggie Bush, RB, DET
    • Injury: Left knee injury
    • Status: Questionable
    • Depth Chart: Starter
    • Back-up: Joique Bell
    • News: He injured the knee in the second quarter when it collided with the helmet of an Arizona defender. He has yet to practice as of Thursday, the Lions' official site reports.
    • Fantasy ramification: It appears Bush will be out for Sunday’s game. Joique Bell is the running back to start from Detroit.

  • Shonn Greene, RB, TEN
    • Injury: Knee
    • Status: Out
    • Depth Chart: 2nd Stringer (behind Chris Johnson)
    • Back-up: Darius Reynaud
    • News: He is considered week-to-week following arthroscopic surgery on his right knee, the Associated Press reports.
    • Fantasy ramification: Chris Johnson’s value rises slightly with the news of Greene’s injury. Johnson is a top-15 RB for Week 3.

  • Mark Ingram, RB, NO
    • Injury: Toe
    • Status: Questionable
    • Depth Chart: 2nd string (behind Pierre Thomas)
    • Back-up: Darren Sproles
    • News:  He did not practice on Thursday, the Saints' official site reports.
    • Fantasy Ramification: Ingram will likely miss Week 3. Despite the Saints’ official depth chart, Sproles is still the NO RB to own and play. Pierre Thomas’ value rises slightly by his expected goal-line carries.

  • Steven Jackson, RB, Atl
    • Injury: Thigh injury
    • Status: Out
    • Depth Chart: Starter
    • Back-up: Jacquizz Rodgers
    • News: Injured on an 8-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter in Week 2. He has been ruled out of Sunday's matchup versus the Dolphins by head coach Mike Smith, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
    • Fantasy ramification: Jackson is out for Week 3, and Rodgers appears to be the heir to his workload. However, Jason Snelling will likely get the majority of the goal-line carries.

  • LaMichael James, RB, SF
    • Injury: Knee (MCL sprain)
    • Status: Questionable
    • Depth Chart: 3rd stringer (behind Kendall Hunter and Frank Gore)
    • Back-up: Anthony Dixon
    • News: He practiced on a limited basis Thursday, the Sacramento Bee's Matt Barrows reports.
    • Fantasy ramification: James should have no problem returning by week four. A sprained MCL of this nature should not increase his chances of another knee injury in the future. Nevertheless, his fantasy value is currently little to none. Kendall Hunter is Gore’s handcuff, and James will have little value unless one of those two gets injured.

  • Maurice Jones-Drew, RB, JAC
    • Injury: Sprained left ankle
    • Status: Questionable
    • Depth Chart: Starter
    • Back-up: Jordan Todman
    • News: He was injured during the second quarter, and had gained 27 yards on 10 carries and caught one pass for 1 yard at that point. Coach Gus Bradley says his status for Sunday's game against the Seahawks is "up in the air."
    • Fantasy ramification: Jordan Todman would be in line to start this weekend in the event that Jones-Drew is unavailable. If Jones-Drew is playing, he is no more than a weak flex for Week 3. His foot will still not be completely recovered, and the Jacksonville offense has been dreadful.

  • Eddie Lacy, RB, GB
    • Injury: Concussion
    • Status: Questionable
    • Depth Chart: Starter
    • Back-up: James Starks
    • News: Lacy had helmet-to-helmet collision with Washington safety Brandon Meriweather on his first carry of the game (10 yds). According to Jason Wilde of ESPN Wisconsin, coach Mike McCarthy said Thursday that Lacy (concussion) "took a step today in the protocol. We'll see where he is tomorrow. He has to practice tomorrow for us to gauge him."
    • Fantasy Ramification: Lacy will likely miss the game on Sunday. It’s unlikely he can complete the concussion protocol by the weekend, and the Packers have a bye in Week 4. They will likely not play Lacy until Week 5. James Starks is a nice flex or low-end RB2 for Week 3.

  • Rashard Mendenhall, RB, ARI
    • Injury: Hamstring
    • Status: Questionable
    • Depth Chart: Starter
    • Back-up: Alfonso Smith
    • News: He did not practice Thursday, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
    • Fantasy Ramifications: It appears Mendenhall will be playing in Week 3.  He is a nice flex play.

  • Bilal Powell, RB, NYJ
    • Injury: Illness
    • Status: Probable
    • Depth Chart: Starter
    • Back-up: Chris Ivory
    • News:  He returned to practice Thursday, ESPN's Rich Cimini reports.
    • Fantasy Ramification: He will continue to split carries with Chris Ivory.  He is barely in the top-30 RBs for Week 3. He is no more than a flex play in any fantasy format.

  • Ray Rice, RB, BAL
    • Injury: Hip flexor strain
    • Status: Questionable
    • Depth Chart: Bernard Pierce
    • News: Left during the fourth quarter with a hip flexor strain. He did not practice Thursday, the Baltimore Sun's Aaron Wilson reports.
    • Fantasy ramification: It appears that Rice will be out for Week 3. If he does play, it’s hard to trust that he will get enough work to worth playing. Bernard Pierce is worthy of a RB2 start this week.

  • Daryl Richardson, RB, STL
    • Injury: Foot
    • Status: Questionable
    • Depth Chart: Starter
    • Back-up: Isaiah Pead
    • News: He was a full participant in Thursday's practice, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Jim Thomas reports.
    • Fantasy Ramification: It appears that Richardson will start on Sunday. Isaiah Pead had only one carry in Week 2, so there should be little fear that there will be a time-share in the STL backfield.

Wide Receivers

  • Danny Amendola, WR, NE
    • Injury: Groin
    • Status: Doubtful
    • Depth Chart: Starter
    • Back-up: Aaron Dobson/Julian Edelman
    • News: Amendola caught 10 passes for 104 yards in week one. He remained limited at practice Thursday, ESPN.com reports.
    • Fantasy ramification: Amendola remains to be out. Edelman and Kenbrell Thompkins appear to be the most trusted NE wide receivers. IF Gronkowski returns this week, he should be expected to get a lot of targets.

  • Dez Bryant, WR, DAL
    • Injury: Back
    • Status: Questionable
    • Depth Chart: Starter
    • Back-up: Terrance Williams
    • News:  He practiced fully Friday.
    • Fantasy Ramification: Start him. It’s as simple as that.

  • Marques Colston, WR, NO
    • Injury: Foot
    • Status: Probable
    • Depth Chart: Starter
    • Back-up: Nick Toon
    • News:  He was a full practice participant Wednesday, the Saints' official site reports.
    • Fantasy Ramification: He will play on Sunday, and is a must-start player.

  • Larry Fitzgerald, WR, ARI
    •  Injury: Hamstring
    • Status: Questionable
    • Depth Chart: No. 1 wide receiver
    • Back-up: Andre Roberts
    • News: Fitzgerald strained the hamstring during a Week 2 practice. He rehabbed the hamstring throughout the week, and played in the Week 2. He was limited in practice on Friday, which was his only practice appearance of the week.
    • Fantasy ramification: He is expected to play Sunday against NO. He will be limited for the second straight week.  He is a WR2 due to the variability of hamstring strains, and his limited practice this week.

  • Malcom Floyd, WR, SD
    • Injury: Neck
    • Status: Questionable
    • Depth Chart: No. 1 wide receiver
    • Back-up: Vincent Brown
    • News: Suffered a neck injury during game versus the Eagles. Floyd was taken out on a stretcher, and evaluated by medical staff. Floyd is "doing fine," according to coach Mike McCoy. He is unlikely to play Sunday against the Titans, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
    • Fantasy ramification: It has been reported that Floyd has been wearing a hard neck brace around the Chargers facilities. He also reported that he felt an electric shock throughout his body when he was hit last Sunday. This information indicates that the spinal cord was involved, and this is not just a neck sprain. Expect him to have a slower recovery than initially expected. He will be out for at least another week. Vince Brown and Eddie Royal are the two SD WRs with any significant value for Week 3.

  • Marquise Goodwin, WR
    • Injury: Fractured Hand
    • Status: Out
    • Depth Chart: 2nd Stringer
    • Back-up: Chris Hogan
    • News: Goowdin fractured a bone in his hand during their week one match-up versus the Patriots.
    • Fantasy ramification: This rookie WR had an impressive preseason, and was catching some attention of fantasy analysts. Unfortunately, he is out indefinitely with an undisclosed fracture in his hand. He is not worth a roster spot at this time.

  • Darrius Heyward-Bey, WR, IND
    • Injury: Shoulder
    • Status: Questionable
    • Depth Chart: No. 2 wide receiver
    • Back-up: T.Y. Hilton
    • News: Heyward- He was listed as full practice participant Thursday, the Colts' official site reports.
    • Fantasy ramification: It appears Heyward-Bey will play on Sunday against the stout SF defense. With the impressive showing of T.Y. Hilton in Week 2, it’s hard to predict how many targets Heyard-Bey will get this week. He is outside the top 70 WRs for Week 3.

  • T.Y. Hilton, WR, IND
    • Injury: Groin
    • Status: Questionable
    • Depth Chart: 2nd stringer
    • Back-up: David Reed
    • News:  He was a limited participant in practice Thursday due to groin injury.
    • Fantasy Ramification: It appears he will play on Sunday vs SF. He had an impressive Week 2 performance, and it only takes him one play to rack-up nice fantasy numbers. He is just outside the top 30 WRs for Week 3.

  • Santonio Holmes, WR, NYJ
    • Injury: Foot
    • Status: Probable
    • Depth Chart: Starter
    • Back-up: Jeremy Kerley
    • News: He didn't practice Thursday, according to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News.
    • Fantasy ramification: Expect Holmes to play in Week 3. His days off of practice during the week appear to be scheduled rest days. He is ranked outside the top 80 WRs for Week 3.

  • Andre Johnson, WR, HOU
    • Injury: Concussion
    • Status: Doubtful
    • Depth Chart: No. 1 wide receiver
    • Back-up: DeAndre Hopkins
    • News: Johnson was injured on a collision with Titans safety Bernard Pollard in Week 2. He still has to receive final clearance from an independent, NFL-appointed doctor. However, he remains on track to start Sunday's game, the Houston Chronicle reports.
    • Fantasy ramification: It appears that Johnson will play on Sunday if the independent neurologist approves him to return to play. If he does play, he is a top-5 WR for Week 3. Be sure to check his status on Sunday morning.

  • Steve Johnson, WR, BUF
    • Injury: Hand
    • Status: Probable
    • Depth Chart: No. 1 WR
    • Back-up: Robert Woods
    • News:  Johnson suffered a minor hand injury during Sunday's win over Carolina but says he'll be fine, The Buffalo News reports.
    • Fantasy Ramification: It appears he will play on Sunday. He is just outside the top 40 WRs for Week 3.

  • Julio Jones, WR, ATL
    • Injury: Knee
    • Status: Questionable
    • Depth Chart: Starter
    • Back up: Harry Douglas
    • News: He was a limited participant in practice on Thursday, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
    • Fantasy Ramification: It appears that Jones will play in Week 3 regardless of the missed practices. With Roddy White still healing up from a high-ankle sprain, Jones is expected to get more targets than usual. He is a top-5 WR for Week 3.

  • Jeremy Kerley, WR, NYJ
    • Injury: Concussion
    • Status: Questionable
    • Depth Chart: 2nd stringer
    • News: He received medical clearance and was a full participant in Wednesday's practice, the New York Daily News' Manish Mehta reports.
    • Fantasy ramification: He will pad up for Week 3, but is barely a top-50 WR.

  • Brandon Marshall, WR, CHI
    • Injury: Back
    • Status: Questionable
    • Depth Chart: Starter
    • Back-up: Earl Bennett
    • News:  He left Thursday's practice at the midway point due to a tight back, the Chicago Tribune reports.
    • Fantasy Ramification: His back issue appears to be minor, and he is expected to play in Week 3. He is a top-10 WR for this week.

  • Hakeem Nicks
    • Injury: Dislocated finger
    • Status: Probable
    • Depth Chart: No. 2 wide receiver
    • Back-up: Rueben Randle
    • News: Nicks dislocated finger during game against Denver, but returned to finish the game after the injury occurred. The X-rays were negative.  He missed Friday’s practice for person reasons, reports ESPN.
    • Fantasy ramification: He will play in Week 3. He is a top-20 WR for this week.

  • Reggie Wayne, WR, IND
    • Injury: Shoulder
    • Status: Probable
    • Depth Chart: Starter
    • Back-up: T.Y. Hilton
    • News:  Wayne was a full participant in practice Thursday.
    • Fantasy Ramification: He will play in Week 3 against the stout SF defense. He is barely a top-20 WR for this week.

  • Roddy White, WR, ATL
    • Injury: Ankle (high-ankle sprain)
    • Status: Questionable
    • Depth Chart: Starter
    • Back-up: Drew Davis
    • News: He practiced in a limited capacity Thursday, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
    •  Fantasy ramification: Expect White to play on in week three. However, because he is dealing with a high-ankle sprain, he is no more than a flex play this week. He will be on the field to keep the Dolphins from bracketing Jones. White will likely not be back to his full abilities for a few more weeks. Douglas is a very nice flex play for this week as well.

  • Kendall Wright, WR, TEN
    • Injury: Concussion
    • Status: Question
    • Depth Chart: 3nd stringer (behind Kenny Britt and Nate Washington)
    • Back-up: Michael Preston
    • News: He missed practice again Thursday, the Tennessean reports. Fantasy ramification: Wright will not play in Week 3. He has not passed all of the steps of the concussion protocol, and seems to be in the early stages of rehab. None of the TEN WRs are worth starting this week besides in super-deep leagues.

Tight Ends

  • Dwayne Allen, TE, IND
    • Injury: Hip
    • Status: Out for season
    • Depth Chart: Starter
    • Back-up: Coby Fleener
    • News: Allen is out for the rest of the season due to hip surgery.
    • Fantasy ramification: Fleener is the Colts TE to have now. He is a low-end TE1 for the rest of the season.
  • Martellus Bennett, TE, CHI
    • Injury: Shoulder
    • Status: Probable
    • Depth Chart: Starter
    • Back-up: Steve Maneri
    • News:  He fully practiced Thursday, the Chicago Tribune reports.
    • Fantasy Ramification: He will play Sunday night vs PIT. He has built up a great relationship and trust with Jay Cutler. He is a must start in Week 3.

  • Vernon Davis, TE, SF
    • Injury: Hamstring
    • Status: Questionable
    • Depth Chart: Starter
    • Back-up: Vance McDonald
    • News: Davis did not participate in practice Thursday, the Sacramento Bee reports.
    • Fantasy ramification: Hamstring strains can linger for some time, and that appears to be the case for Davis. It appears he will not be ready for Sunday’s game. If he does play, his injury is very volatile, so it’s hard to trust him in Week 3 regardless of if he plays. Better and safer options are available.

  • Joel Dreessen, TE, DEN
    • Injury: Knee surgery
    • Status: Questionable
    • Depth Chart: 2nd stringer (behind Julius Thomas)
    • Back-up: Jacob Tamme
    • News: He was limited at practice Thursday, ESPN.com reports.
    • Fantasy ramification: Dreessen is questionable for Week 3, and is second on the depth chart behind Julius Thomas.  Thomas had an impressive first two games. Whenever Dreessen does return, his playing time and fantasy value is very limited.

  • Jermichael Finley, TE, GB
    • Injury: Toe
    • Status: Questionable
    • Depth Chart: Starter
    • Back-up: Andrew Quarless
    • News: He returned to practice Thursday, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports.
    • Fantasy ramification: It appears Finley will play this weekend against the Colts. If he is practicing well without any exacerbations of symptoms, that is a sign he will be ready for this weekend.  He is a top-10 TE for Week 3.

  • Rob Gronkowski, TE, NE
    • Injury: Back, Arm
    • Status: Doubtful
    • Depth Chart: Starter
    • Back-up: Zach Sudfeld
    • News: He remained limited at practice Thursday, ESPN.com reports.
    • Fantasy ramification:  This could be the first week “Gronk” suits up this season. He has been limited at practice this entire week though, so it’s possible the Patriots will test him out on the field in this week’s game. However, he is a really risky player to play this week. If he plays, he is a high risk/high reward fantasy tight end. Better and more safer options should be available.

  • Rob Housler, TE, ARI
    • Injury: Ankle
    • Status: Questionable
    • Depth Chart: Starter
    • Back-up: Jim Dray and D.C. Jefferson
    • News: He remained limited during Thursday's practice, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
    • Fantasy Ramifications: He is unlikely to play in Week 3. If he does play, he is not worth starting in any formats.

  • Marcedes Lewis, TE, JAC
    • Injury: Calf
    • Status: Questionable
    • Depth Chart: Starter
    • Back-up: Allen Reisner
    • News:  Lewis (calf) did limited work, but saw no action in team drills Thursday, the Florida Times-Union's Ryan O'Halloran reports.
    • Fantasy Ramification: It appears he will miss Week 3. Find options elsewhere, no one besides Maurice Jones-Drew is worth starting on this dreadful offense.

  • Heath Miller, TE, PIT
    • Injury: ACL repair
    • Status: probable
    • Depth Chart: Starter
    • Back-up: David Paulson
    • News: He finished 2012 as a top-5 TE in standard scoring leagues. This is his first game back this season.  He breaks the top 20 TEs for Week 3, but expectations should be low for him. It’s hard to know what his mobility will look like following ACL repair and rehab.

  • Zach Sudfeld, TE, NE
    • Injury: Hamstring
    • Status: Probable
    • Depth Chart: 2nd stringer (behind Rob Gronkowski when healthy)
    • Back-up: Michael Hoomanawanui (blocking TE)
    • News: He practiced fully on Wednesday, Ben Volin of the Boston Globe reports.
    • Fantasy ramification:  Sudfeld replaced the injured Gronkowski in week one, and came away with a hamstring strain and no receptions. Sudfeld’s fantasy value is shrinking fast as Gronkowski getting closer to return (possibly this week). He is worth benching as a back-up TE throughout the season if it’s possible. Gronkowski has a history of missing games, and Sudfeld could have significant value in those games. Sudfeld has little-to-no value in Week 3.

  • Kellen Winslow, TE, NYJ
    • Injury: Knee
    • Status: Questionable
    • Depth Chart: Starter
    • Back-up: Jeff Cumberland
    • News:  Winslow was limited in practice this week.
    • Fantasy Ramification: He'll be out there this week. He is likely splitting time with Jeff Cumberland. He is barely outside the top-25 TEs for Week 3, so better options are available. He shouldn’t be started in any leagues.
