The NFL Network is reporting Thursdaythat Donovann McNabb has requested his release by the Minnesota Vikings, and the team is planning to grant his request.

The immediate question is, why? There appear to be two reasons. The first seems clear: McNabb was taking snaps with the third team in practice and was obviously unhappy. The second reason however, is clearly uncertain. Could it be that he has a potential designation? Who knows. Could it be Houston? Waivers will be claimed on Friday, at 4 pm.

I think its safe to say that no one would have ever imagined a player like this playing for his fourth team in less than three years. Lets look at what McNabb was able to do over hte course of his career:

- 6-time Pro Bowler
- 98-62-1 as a starter
- 37, 276 Passing yards (17th ALL-TIME)
- 234 Passing touchdowns (22nd ALL-TIME)

McNabb certainly believesthat he still has something left in the tank. Are teams that are in need of quarterbacks willing to take this risk? Would you? Teams like the Texans,
currently in the playoff chase and in need of a new quarterback after losing their second string to a shoulder injury, and Chicago, who also is in need of a quarterback after losing there star and gunslinger Jay Cutler.

Everyone is speculating that McNabb could go to Chicago, and will be a perfect designation for him, because thats his homeplace; But it would be a totally new offensive scheme for McNabb that may take precious time for him to learn. All in all, i think teams need to take a extra look at McNabb and see where exactly he is at his stage of his career. He is getting older, and physical attributes may affect him.

Does McNabb have what it takes? What team does he go to? Tell me what you think?
