Peyton Manning earned all the headlines and accolades in the Denver Broncos' 31-19 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, but Tracy Porter scored the play of the game.
It's not that Manning's play was poor.
In fact, it was most likely decent enough to earn him another commercial endorsement to add to his current TV ads for Papa John's Pizza, Buick and DirecTV.
He threw for two touchdowns and 253 yards on 19 of 26 passing.
Not a bad first night with a new team.
Still, it was Porter's fourth quarter interception of a Ben Roethlisberger pass that put the game away for the Broncos.
The electric play culminated with Porter returning the ball 43 yards into the end zone for his first pick-six of the season. Also a great first night with a new team.
Roethlisberger and the Steelers' offense had been driving the ball and were particularly successful at moving the chains on third down.
Pittsburgh, however, was down six points and trying to mount a comeback with less than two minutes left in the game when Porter anticipated Roethlisberger's pass and hit pay dirt.
Such plays are not new for Porter. He has a history of picking off popular quarterbacks in key moments of the game. The most famous is his 2010 interception of a Peyton Manning pass in Super Bowl XLIV.
He returned that throw for a 74-yard pick-six as the Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints defeated Manning's team, the Indianapolis Colts.
Porter's play against the Steelers earned him the AFC Defensive Player of the Week award. For those who have seen enough TV ads starring Peyton Manning, hopefully it will also quickly earn Porter a commercial endorsement deal.
