Alabama Crimson Tide at the Texas A&M Aggies
Alabama vs Manziel: This game will be an ego-battle between one team and one star. I was wrong in a previous article. (The article about the Aggies beating Alabama and winning the SEC West.) Johnny Manziel's distractions off the field will give an already great Bama defense even more fire.
For the Aggies to win, they need to run the ball with Ben Malena and Tra Carson. Regardless of the return of suspended players on defense, this might hurt rather than help them with the lack of team play.
The bottom line, this game comes down to the Alabama offense vs the Aggie defense. A.J. McCarron will take care of the ball, while his defense will score points with pressure on Manziel.
Alabama 27, Texas A&M 14
Tennessee Volunteers at the Oregon Ducks
One year and a new coach made a great impact on this Tennessee team. Coach Butch Jones did exactly what I stated in a previous article- he is running the football and playing defense.
The Vols have rushed for a total of 555 yards, while passing for only 274 after two games. Unlike in 2012, QB Justin Worley has only thrown one interception and running backs Rajion Neal and Marlin Lane have led the way in ball control. Their only issue is scoring mainly through turnovers. Their only competition; the Austin Peay Governors and Western Kentucky Hilltoppers.
Oregon is still that high octane offense with a no huddle style to wear down opposing defenses.
The running game of the Vols will keep the Ducks on the sidelines, and Mariota might not have success against the Vols' pass defense. It will be the legs of De'Anthony Thomas and Marcus Mariota that will be the difference in this game.
Oregon 30, Tennessee 20
Ohio State Buckeyes at the California Bears
While the nation is putting the Buckeyes on upset alert, the Cal Bears feel they have a weapon in QB Jarod Goff. Looking at the 20 points the Buckeyes gave up to the Buffalo Bulls, most would feel that the Bears have a chance in this game.
With Braxton Miller injured and the possibility of not playing, the Bears could take advantage of this huge home game.
Ohio State will run the football successfully with Jordan Hall. Looking at the two games that the Bears have played, their defense will open up the door for many Buckeye scores.
Ohio State 35, California 24
Washington Huskies at the Illinois Fighting Illini
This contest will be a quarterback battle between Washington's Keith Price and the Illini's QB Nathan Scheelhaase.
The Huskies impressed me with a win over the Boise State Broncos, but traveling to the Midwest will play a huge part in this game.
The difference in this upset will be the all purpose yards by Illinois' Josh Ferguson.
Illinois 24, Washington 21- UPSET ALERT!!
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at the Duke Blue Devils
Coach David Cutcliff has the Duke season off to a positive start. The question is "Will they keep in the right direction?" Last season was the first time that a Duke football team made a bowl game since the early 1990s.
Cutcliff is using a Steve Spurrier like approach with his two duel threat QBs in Anthony Boone and Brandon Connette.
As a Georgia Bulldogs' fan, I would love to see them beat Georgia Tech.
Elon was not a test for Georgia Tech, but they have a lot of talent on this football team. The Jackets could be part of this southern region of ACC success including the Florida State Seminoles, Clemson Tigers, and Miami Hurricanes.
The Yellow Jackets will hurt many teams with their rushing game led by Vad Lee, Justin Thomas, and David Sims.
Georgia Tech 28, Duke 24
My Dear Stuart, I feel sorry for you. Do you even enjoy these games? You have all your predictions, half-time discussions, speculations and post game recaps. You get yourself all worked up by going over each play in your little head. You stress over the score, who's going to win, who will be mad, glad, etc. This seems like a lot of work!
Whatever happened to the excitement of the unknown?
