The Cincinnati Bengals have enjoyed the luxury of having Mike Zimmer as their defensive coordinator for the past five seasons.
During this time Zimmer has proven to be one of the league's top defensive minds.
Now, another Coach Zimmer will be calling Cincinnati home.
The Bengals recently added Adam Zimmer, son of Mike, to the coaching staff as an assistant secondary coach.
Bengals fans hope he will have the same kind of impact that the elder Zimmer has had. The Bengals' secondary has not been the most talked about unit on the defensive side of the ball.
They are, however, loaded with talent at cornerback and safety. Perhaps young Zim can help to light a fire under the unit and get them to play at a level comparable to the defensive line.
Like his father, Adam Zimmer comes to the Bengals having won a Super Bowl as an assistant coach. The younger Zimmer was an assistant linebackers coach for the New Orleans Saints for four years, including the 2009 season when the Saints won Super Bowl XLIV.
Mike Zimmer won his Super Bowl with the Dallas Cowboys as a secondary coach in Super Bowl XXX.
The Bengals are a team close enough to contending that a tweak here or there could have them Super Bowl bound. We all know that, in the National Football League, a team's window of opportunity opens up and quickly begins to close again.
Bengals fans are starting to believe that window is opening. they are watching very closely the moves the team makes. I can't imagine any fan in Cincinnati will have a problem with having another Coach Zimmer on board.
