There have been quite a few developments out of the Bills' training camp already, but these six stand out.
1. Mario Williams Banged Up
Mario Williams has been in and out of training camp. A lot of the focus in the organization has been on Williams. Rightfully so, but I think that there are a lot of other important things that have gone on recently at Buffalo's camp.
2. Bills Sign Terrell Sinkfield
Many people wouldn't think twice about this signing, but Buffalo has a lot of question marks at the receiver position after Stevie Johnson. Sinkfield ran a 4.19 40-yard dash. That speedy time was faster than current Buffalo Bill C.J. Spiller (4.27).
3. Kevin Kolb Struggles
Reports out of Buffalo's camp say that Kolb has been having accuracy issues. This is not what Buffalo was expecting when they signed Kolb. Before camp started, many people around the league assumed that Kolb would be the starter Week 1, but now there is some uncertainty in the air.
4. E.J. Manuel Excels
1st round draft pick E.J. Manuel has been impressing the Bills' coaching staff this week. New head coach Doug Marrone says that he is "very, very impressed" with Manuel. It was assumed by many that Manuel would sit behind Kolb initially, but it's anyone's job at this point.
5. Kevin Kolb Injured
Kevin Kolb was already having a bad week of training camp but it worsened when he "bumped his knee." Kolb slipped on a mat while walking from one field to another. Kolb was visibly frustrated and for good reason. He is in the middle of a QB battle, one that is getting ready to slip away from him.
6. No Jairius Byrd
Buffalo is still missing their 2-time Pro Bowl safety Jairius Byrd. Buffalo designated Byrd as their franchise player and Byrd chose not to sign the contract. Since the two sides did not reach an agreement by July 15th, a one-year contract is the only thing that Byrd can sign. Buffalo is implementing a new defensive system and I am positive that they would love to have their Pro Bowl safety on the field.
