Once this game was announced, media and fans were drooling all over themselves, waiting for the rematch of the game that would put Johnny Manziel on the map last college football season and win him a Heisman Trophy.
Seasons change, people change, athletics change.
But the idea of these two top-six schools going after it on Saturday and the excitement that a matchup like this bring to the college football scene is exactly why the sport is the mega-success that it is right now.
Will Johnny Manziel have another signature moment? What can Nick Saban do to stop the Aggies' offense? Does C.J. Moseley become the defensive superstar in this game? What about AJ McCarron - is this his signature game of the season?
Here are a few things to look for in this contest.
The importance of this game
If Alabama wins, the road to another national title becomes less crowded. If Texas A&M wins, Manziel jumps to the head of the Heisman Trophy ballots again. This is a game that has so many implications to it and so many subplots there is not another game this season that sets the table for the bowl season and the national title.
Something historic will happen in this game. We will all remember it (let’s hope it has nothing to do with Brent Musberger) and talk about it for years like it was better than anything we ever saw.
AJ McCarron does it again
If he comes from behind and wins, does he shed tears again on national television?
When media members talk about how great the Alabama roster is, McCarron is usually an afterthought. He is better than Jay Barker, better than David Shula and maybe the best passer this team has had since Ken Stabler.
McCarron could be the best thing for this game and a win throws his name right into the middle of the Heisman voting. Should he do the unthinkable and throw for 360 yards and four scores (which we all know could happen in this offense), McCarron wins the Heisman, outright.
Kevin Sumlin proves he belongs in the SEC
The head coach at College Station is the best young coach in the country.
One more win like this and a BCS bowl bid for Texas A&M and the country will be calling on him to fill coaching vacancies next season, maybe even some in the NFL (Dallas).
Sumlin was viewed as an up and coming coach heading into last season. Now, he takes the next step in the process. This game is as much of importance to the coaching staff and the programs as it is to the players and the nation.
Everyone will be watching this game.
