Scouting Notes: Very much looks the part of a 3-4 defensive end/5 technique or a 4-3 defensive tackle, very big very thick especially in the lower half, a little bit fleshier in the middle then you'd like, may lack burst in tennis shoes and shorts, but not in a helmet and pads...has very good speed for his size, closes quickly on the football, good burst off the ball, engages quickly off the snap but needs to play with better pad level, pops up out of his stance too often, giving up leverage allowing the blocker to get underneath, very quick hands though, gets his hands inside, stacks and sheds, creates distance and gives himself a two way go...Does a great job of shedding and disengaging, does a great job of using his arm length...Does a nice job of controlling the blocker, keeps his head up, constantly in the backfield and doe a great job of finding the football, shedding the blocker and closing on the ball carrier or the quarterback, finds the football as well as any defensive lineman in the draft...Plays too high but gets away with it with outstanding balance and by controlling his man and creating distance... Terricfic balance rarely on the ground, does a nice job of controlling his man, sifiting through the trash down the line and getting to the football...Can be ultra quick off the ball, but his get off is inconsistent, doesn't take plays off but he needs to get off the ball quickly on a consistent basis...Seems to have a good understanding of the blocking schemes he goes up against, knows where the football is going and knows where blocks are coming from, seems to have a good football IQ...Has the size to be an effective run stuffer but needs to lower his pad level , drop his hips and anchor down against the run, seems to be more impressive on plays run away from him then plays run right at him, but that's something that's easily coachable, he has the physical tools to be more effective... As a pass rusher he has surprising speed and short area quickness for his size as well as a very effective rip move...Said to be a team leader, was a team captain and displayed loyalty by staying with a program under duress

Bottom Line: Jones is a player whose best football is ahead of him, he has periods of pure dominance on film and has the combination of size and speed to be special, but he needs to be coached up to play with better leverage and a more consistent get-off on the snap...Brings versatility, has the ability to play in either a 3-4 or a 4-3, can play the 5 tech in a 3-4 and slide inside on passing downs...One of the most underrated defenive players in the draft, flashes dominance on film and has the physical tools to be a stand out performer right from the start.
