The New England Patriots prepared for the upcoming season in the usual way; by going for quantity in signings, in the expectation that they will end up with the quality they seek.
In truth, the Patriots have had some notable successes in the free agent market.
The draft, this year, seemed to run heavily in favor of defensive players. While the Patriots' latest free agent list may not exactly reflect this trend, they certainly helped themselves to a number of interesting defensive picks.
That said, we know how the Patriots love the tight end position, and they add two more prospects, this year.
This is the list of undrafted free agents, now headed for Foxboro:
WR T.J. Moe - Missouri
WR Kenbrell Thomkins - Cincinnati
TE Zach Sudfeld - Nevada
TE Brandon Ford - Clemson
RB Quentin Hines - Akron
FB Ben Bartholomew - Tennessee

On to Watch
The Patriots have not been strong in the wide receiver position, since the 2006 season when Randy Moss caught, virtually, everything that Tom Brady threw his way. That's not to take anything away from Wes Welker, but he's no longer in New England - for better or for worse.
Kenbrell Thomkins does not stand out, in terms of his stature or his stats. However; he is fast and agile. His three-cone drill time was an explosive 6.88 seconds and he could well bring something to the table, for a team that continues to search for depth and consistency, at the wide receiver position. It will be intriguing to see how Thomkins fares and, indeed, to see if he makes the starting lineup.
