It's been clear for a while now that Houston Texans fans haven't been happy with quarterback Brock Osweiler. After he signed a $72 million contract in the offseason to come over form Denver and be the Texans franchise QB for the next half a decade, can you blame the fans for being upset with Osweiler's play this year? His 16 interceptions this year are second most in the league while he sits at 27th in terms of passing yards in 2016; fewer than Sam Bradford, Trevor Siemian, Alex Smith, and rookies Dak Prescott and Carson Wentz. You may remember a few months ago that Texans fans started a GoFundMe page to buy out Osweiler's contract, and while people aren't dumb enough to contribute to the page they sure as hell were ecstatic when Osweiler was pulled from the game in Houston on Sunday and replaced by Tom Savage.
After interceptions on back-to-back drives, Osweiler was out and Tom Savage was in. Of course social media had a field day over the Osweiler benching:
Not only did the fans get what they wanted in Osweiler's benching, but Savage brought the Texans back from two separate 12+ point deficits in this one - which was his first NFL action since week 15 of his rookie year in 2014. The Texans still lead the AFC south with two games left and if Savage can guide Houston into he postseason it's going to make the decision on Bill O'Brien and the Texans front office extremely difficult as to who is the QB in 2017. However, it's still 2016 and Houston is eyeing a Super Bowl run NOW but can that happen with Savage ...
The last two weeks of football in Houston, the AFC south, and the AFC in general, just got a whole lot more interesting!
